About Magna

I grew up in South Africa and came to the UK for a stint in the diplomatic service. I only planned to stay for 4 years,  went back to SA, only to return a year later.  I went on to study Counselling and Psychotherapy, wanting to understand empathy and having compassion for others from a different lens. During this time I was working as a home carer for a spinal patient and was struck by the ability of the human psyche and how it dealt with trauma. Wanting to understand the language of emotions, bodies and the human spirit, I was inspired to look at life through a wider lens.

For the first 8 years of my career, I focused on various areas of therapy like anxiety, depression, etc, always looking for the connections and root causes for the things we struggle with.  I then transitioned further into trauma as I was particularly interested in the effect trauma had on the day-to-day living of individuals, relationships and families. ‍ I have a special interest in generational trauma and how the things of the past impact the here and the now.

I have a holistic and integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy, which involve addressing the mind, body, and spirit to facilitate healing and growth. In session we naturally look at our relationships, our relationship with ourselves and how that impacts day-to-day living.  The sessions are holistic, looking at the mind, body and spirit for us to move forward and heal. We don't function separately from our bodies, therefore the body starts healing when we heal emotionally and spiritually.

My practice is culturally varied and I work with anyone aged 17 - 99 as I believe one is never too old to make changes.  I have worked with people from all walks of life, the homeless, clients struggling with addictions, eating disorders, end of life and people just wanting to make different choices in life.

I am passionate about what I do and for me stepping into a therapeutic space with you would be a privilege.
